The position will assist staff with gathering, compiling, and collecting data to support compliance with multiple Homeland Security grants. The position will assist in ensuring the County's compliance with the National Incident Management System (NIMS), provides support for Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), and emergency management planning activities to include Tier II reporting analysis and coordination with local businesses as well as public and private entities. The position assists in enhancing the County's comprehensive plans to include counter-terrorism planning for emergency management, participates in obtaining, documenting, organizing, analyzing, integrating, publishing and distributing a wide variety of data, planning guidance, and operational concepts In the event of an activation of the county Emergency Operations Center, the intern would fulfill a support role consistent with their background, abilities, and EOC Operation's needs. The planner will assist with the development and maintenance of regional plans and support tools and to support the facilitation of terrorist-related planning activities for the Houston Urban Security Initiative. MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma/GED; Sixty (60) hours of college level coursework in a related field required. Preference will be given to those: Pursuing degrees in public administration, emergency response, emergency management, urban planning or a directly related field; Who have work experience in local governmental agencies; Who have work experience in emergency operations centers; Who have experience in GIS and/or cameo applications; Who have experience with emergency management planning. Applicants must be detail-oriented, conscientious, and able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Experience with word-processing, spreadsheets, database management, internet programs/applications is required. Applicants must have good written and verbal communication skills, as well as good organizational and interpersonal skills. This position is Grant Funded and is for approximately 3 months. There are no benefits assigned to this position. SALARY: Temporary/Internship, $24.00 per hour, up to 29 hours a week, for approximately 3 months CLOSING: Upon filling position All full-time and part-time employees are members of the Texas County District Retirement System (TCDRS).
