JOB SUMMARY
The Product Development Manager is responsible for the design and progression of the company's residential home plans. This includes designing floor plans, exterior elevations, and standard structural options across the portfolio. This role ensures that the product offering remains current, marketable, and cost-effective, while also coordinating updates and innovations based on market trends, builder feedback, and buyer preferences. A key part of this role is producing and managing 3D renderings and architectural visualizations to support internal planning for product development.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Design and develop new home plans and elevations or revisions to existing products that align with buyer trends, market research, and community design standards.
Create and manage 3D architectural models and renderings for new plans and elevations using software such as SketchUp, Revit, Chief Architect, or similar.
Researches and stays current on trends and styles within the industry.
Conduct competitive product research and apply insights to update and diversify the plan portfolio.
Participate in lot fit studies and community planning to align product offerings with site conditions.
Accomplishes other tasks as assigned by the Executive Vice President, President, or CEO.
COMPETENCIES 10+ years of experience in residential architectural design, product development, or drafting for a homebuilding company.
Proficient in 2D and 3D drafting and rendering software such as AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Chief Architect, Enscape, Lumion, or similar.
Strong portfolio showcasing residential design and 3D visualization capabilities.
Deep understanding of residential construction methods and architectural design principles.
Ability to manage multiple projects with strong attention to detail and deadlines.
Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Residential Design, Construction Management, or a related field.
Experience in production home building or regional residential development.
Familiarity with building codes, structural systems, and value engineering practices.
Bachelor's degree, preferably in architectural design.
At least five years' experience in residential architectural design.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is mild to moderate. The primary room environment contains ambient room temperatures and lighting as found in a typical office environment.
