The Rapid City Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to beautifying, operating, and maintaining parks, trails, and recreational facilities across the city. We implement year-round recreation programs for all ages and manage both park maintenance and the City’s urban forest.

The Parks Maintenance I – Cemetery position is responsible for maintaining City-owned properties, specifically within cemetery grounds. This role involves a variety of manual and equipment-assisted tasks related to groundskeeping, facility upkeep, and light construction.
Maintenance I:
We’re looking for someone with a positive attitude, willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and the ability to operate maintenance tools and machinery safely and effectively. Prior experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or facility maintenance is helpful but not required.
Education and/or Experience:
Maintenance I: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one-year related experience and/or training in facility maintenance, facility repair, and small to heavy equipment operations.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Alternate certifications will be considered upon agreement with the Parks Division Manager.
Maintenance I: Employees are required to obtain the following licenses: Class B Commercial Driver License, must obtain within first 180 days of employment. Commercial Pesticide Applicators License, must obtain within first 180 days of employment. Prior to promotion to a Park Maintenance II the completion of the SDSU Extension Master Gardener Training is preferred.
